An end-of-2025 update on the Working Class History podcast, and subscriber Patreon benefits.
Last year, on a trial basis, we began producing and releasing much more frequent podcast episodes, and so we released new episodes either publicly or on our Patreon every week.
Listen to this article as a mini-podcast:
WCH Podcast and Patreon Update – Working Class History
Patreon is how listeners like you make our work possible, and enables us to cover the cost of making the podcast and doing all the rest of our historical research and outreach.
Some podcast series we work on take several years, hundreds of hours of work, and cost thousands of dollars. Not to mention the costs of our web services, research materials, and more.
We are only able to devote the time and resources to making this podcast because of support from you, our listeners.
So last year we also started releasing at least one exclusive bonus episode on Patreon every month, and started two new discussion podcast series, Fireside Chats and Radical Reads, just for our Patreon supporters.
Our hope was that releasing more episodes on Patreon would enable us to get more supporters, and raise funds to enable us to make more regular episodes which were free for everyone, as well as produce more written content available free for all.
And we are very grateful to all of you, because we have been able to grow our number of supporters on Patreon, and produce much more regular podcast episodes which are available free to everyone, in addition to our more regular bonus episodes.
Initially we were doing this on a trial basis, but we’ve actually managed to keep up with weekly releases for a year-and-a-half at this point.
However, we were not able to grow our support enough to do more than this, especially given inflation and increases in our costs over the years. So we have finally got to the end of the episodes we have managed to fund and prepare in this time. So we’re going to take a little end of season break from the regular weekly episodes. We will be returning with the new season of free episodes in the New Year.
In the meantime, we will be continuing with our release of bonus episodes for our Patreon supporters every month.
Now with inflation and our costs, access to our exclusive content on Patreon has been the same price for over five years now. Meanwhile, inflation and prices in general have gone up by 25%, and our costs have gone up even more than that. Therefore we won’t be able to keep making these episodes at the same rate without increasing the cost for new supporters.
But we will be keeping the cost of accessing all of our exclusive content on Patreon to 5 dollars per month (with a discount if you subscribe annually), until the end of 2025. For everyone who joins us before then, your price will be permanently locked in at the five dollar level.
But from the beginning of 2026, we are going to have to increase it for new members to 6 dollars per month – still with a discount if you subscribe annually.
So if you want to lock in the low price from pre-Covid, back in 2020, when prices were much lower, do please join us today, support our work, and access load of great content and benefits, including early access to all episodes without ads, and access to our exclusive bonus episodes every month. We have loved being able to release new episodes for you every week, and would love to be able to get back to doing that in the New Year. So, if you want to be able to get more frequent episodes, please do join us today on Patreon, https://patreon.com/workingclasshistory
In the meantime, we wish you all the best for the end of the year. Over the break we are going to continue working on a whole bunch of exciting new episodes and series to release for you next year.
We hope you can bear with us during this time.
If you haven’t listened to all of our old episodes yet, do take this time to go back and give our earlier ones a listen – there is a lot of good stuff in there!
Thank you so much for listening to our podcast over the last few years. We hope to be back in your ears with new content really soon.
