Our work is only made possible through our supporters’ donations. And now, with the help of our friends in the labour movement, those active in their unions can support us through their union branches and locals!
Working Class History is a small collective of worker-historians. We are completely independent of any political parties, governments or institutions, and we have no billionaire donors. Our project is only made possible with support from our readers and listeners.
So far, our funding has only come from individual supporters. But now, we’ve produced draft motions for union branches/locals to pledge their support for our project, which will help us cover our costs, which have increased significantly in recent years, and keep us financially stable and even allow us to expand our activities.
We’ve produced two model motions for union branches. Feel free to print or link to these documents at your union meetings:
The motions contain two suggested levels of support: ‘Supporter’ (£200/$250 a year) and ‘Solidarity Supporter’ (£500/$600 a year). Union locals/branches/organisations choosing the ‘Solidarity Supporter’ pledge will also receive a free copy of our book, Working Class History: Everyday Acts of Resistance & Rebellion, our annual WCH wall calendar for your branch office, as well as two free copies of our notebook, The Future is Unwritten, to give to your reps. Although you can feel free to choose different amounts, as appropriate for your organisation.
Even with our limited budget, we’ve achieved so much with the help of our supporters:
- A popular podcast with almost 100 episodes
- ‘On this day’ social media content with over 1.7 million followers and an audience of 15-25 million per month
- A Stories app with our entire archive of thousands of historical entries complete with sources
- An interactive map with approximately 4000 locations connected to working-class history from around the world
- Several books including Working Class History: Everyday Acts of Resistance & Rebellion, Black Coal and Red Bandanas: An Illustrated History of the West Virginia Mine Wars, and Insurgent Labor: The Vermont AFL-CIO 2017-2023
With your help, and the help of your unions, we can achieve so much more!
For any questions about this process, please feel free to email us on info@workingclasshistory.com. If you would like to help us draft motions for use in other countries, like Canada or Australia, please get in touch on that email address.
